love love love that. I wouldn't have grilled without her.

I have had several chimneys over the years and loved them all. This is an absolute improvement over the previous models I've had. The bottom panel was a bit tricky to put back on (it doesn't fit) but once that was done it was insanely easy to work with. Insert the charcoal, drop some paper on the bottom (put oil on the paper if you want, it will help harden it) and wait a few minutes. Your coals will be ROCKET hot. Hold the grill and pull the handle and the coals will fall into place. Very…

Big capacity, speed and fold down bottom are big pluses

I have a Weber mini chimney and it turned out to be too small for even my very small smoker grill. So I ordered that. It's huge, which I like. You can always add less coal than capacity will allow. The flap door is a great idea and has worked flawlessly so far. I like this feature because more of the spent charcoal stays on the bottom where it belongs when thrown into the grill. Charcoal ignites quickly and cooks much faster than Weber's. This is undoubtedly because the larger size allows for…

Fantastic high capacity charcoal fireplace for less than $20

Fantastic high capacity charcoal fireplace for less than $20. Works exactly as advertised and does what it's supposed to. I feel compelled to address the 2 negatives mentioned in other reviews. #1 - Chimney discolours after use, especially if left outdoors. Yes! What do you expect? This is NASA's disposable spacecraft worth billions of dollars. Of course, high temperatures and exposure to the elements affect the appearance of most metals. #2 - The bottom falls out after dumping hot coals…

Very comfortable, creative and innovative.

Very satisfied. The flap works very well and makes the grilling process more pleasant. A simple flap that only uses a pin activated by pressing the handle, like in an old flour sifter. This is significantly larger than the Weber chimney I had for 10 years (finally rusted). It burns coals significantly faster than the Weber, likely due to the larger base and number of vents. Putting newspaper under the base is a little tricky as it is larger and won't get crumpled newspaper stuck in it like a…

Cons
  • Low maintainability

The disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

I already had a standard chimney starter but wanted this type of hatch for my specific grill. I have an Akorn Kamado which is an egg shaped deep grill. Loading charcoal into the Akorn can be cumbersome since you're working with a deep grill and can't place charcoal right in without making a mess. You could probably get around this problem with a shovel, but you still look like a clumsy commercial with sparks and shards flying everywhere. then left with a reasonably civilized pile of coals to…
