This rolling pin appears to be solid and well constructed, but the 18" size is a reflection of full size including the handles. not for croissants or other large dough. Advertising needs to be clearer.

This item arrived on time and was properly packaged. I bought this for my sister in law for Christmas as she is a cake maker and she loved it before she even fully opened the box. :-D She mentioned that the weight of the marble rolling pins makes rolling out the lipstick much easier. I originally bought this rolling pin because it's pretty and stands out on the counter between uses (which is perfect if you don't have a lot of storage space) . But I fell in love with it because it's heavy, smooth, and makes an amazingly thin dough for pizza and tortillas. Marble is smooth, glides over dough and is easy to clean. Absolutely beautiful rolling pin, fits perfectly in the hand and goes amazingly easily! A bit of Cisco on a needle makes rolling out the dough a lot easier. This needle works with everything I need to make from cakes that I can slice to make layered cakes of different sizes, very thin dough for tortillas and many other thin cookie doughs, pie crusts and showgirls. My first needle was similar to this but lighter. I decided to exchange it for a more modern wooden one, very smooth, very long, without handles. What mistake! It took forever to roll out the dough and it was such a workout that I stopped baking so much because the AI knew I was in for a struggle just to roll the dough out wide and flat. It's a rock so it might be unavoidable, but I'm hoping the tiny pockets don't catch food particles. The center hole is also misaligned at one end, so one knob moves smoothly while the other wobbles up and down as you turn it. A wooden cradle is good to keep a heavy thing from rolling on the floor.
