A simple tool with no waste

It's impossible to count the berries I've spoiled in the past instead of peeling them. Not wanting to lose the berries by cutting off the stem end, I waited until I had enough energy to cut them off cleanly. Other peeling tools were not very effective. Stem Gem is sharp and easy to use. Press the button to open the claws. Place a berry around the skin and release the button to close, twist once and pull out the stem. They have a perfectly clear indentation in the berry and an easy-to-remove…

Works with mini peppers

This strawberry peeler is great for strawberries. A fun discovery was that it works great on mini peppers. It separates the stalk making it very easy to remove the seeds, rinse and make a snack or lunch box. Easier to clean after use on peppers than berries, but both are worth cleaning. It took me a little practice to get it down. I've found digging fairly close to the trunk to be effective. You can change the opening width of the teeth by pressing the button above. The action is similar to…

Love this thing about 2 weeks a year

My mom just cut off the tops which lost some of the fruit. But this little tool makes strawberry season a breeze. It plucks the stems and minimizes waste. Our family uses about 30-40 pounds of strawberries each season between canning, freezing and baking. The last potato peeler lasted about 10 years. In fact, the only reason I had to order a new one was because I accidentally tossed our last one down the garbage chute. Oops. Conclusion: This little tool will help you a lot if you process a lot…

Best Kitchen & Dining Disappointment

Based on the amazing amount of positive reviews I thought this would be the opposite of how it actually worked, which turned out not to be very good. The teeth open at rest and close into a cone when the button is pressed. So you put a berry in front of it, press a button and it does all the work for you. Instead of this. You press a button, the unsharpened teeth open, you have to wave and twist to loosen the case, then rely on the weak spring inside to close the teeth and pull the case out for

So quick and easy!: Kitchen Utensils & Gadgets

Love it! It's so quick and easy! Some say it doesn't work, but I disagree. I may be biased because I've been using it for years and just bought this replacement so I've had a lot of practice with it. If anyone is having trouble, this is the best I can say to help: press and hold the button first. Insert the pins so that 1/2-2/3 the length of the pins are in the berry (depending on the size of the berry). Then, when you release the button, slowly rotate the peeler while applying light pressure…

Quality has deteriorated - change of production?

First of all I would like to say that this is the third purchase I have made. The other two were amazing, wonderful devices that made peeling strawberries into massive amounts of jam a dream come true. They had strong metal pins on a well-balanced spring that allowed giant, sturdy strawberries to be cracked as easily as tiny, overripe gems. The other two were replaced for loss - used daily for 4 months of strawberry season here in California - but NOT replaced for breakage or malfunction, they…
