Done and working for router

Detected I have to trust the setup wizard. I figured I was educated enough to set it up manually. I was not. The main thing that confused me is how to reset IP address in vLAN. I also found that I didn't need all the rules I made trying to keep my kids from playing instead of going to bed, I didn't set up a QOS either, and don't seem to need one, the old one It needs routers for VOIP to work properly. My old router was also gigabit (RV042G) and I get about 25% faster speeds. by spectrum. Not…

Pros
  • Great choice
Cons
  • Good but not great

DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER!

We recommend you avoid this router. Documentation is sorely lacking. There is a console port but there are no instructions on how to connect to it i.e. bitrate. There is no option to change the default LAN IP address in the setup interface. There doesn't seem to be a way to specify DHCP pool limits. The most annoying thing is that CISCO online support is "under maintenance". We bought it as a backup router to connect our LAN to our ISP who provides an Ethernet connection. The inability to…

Good router for wired use but WiFi seems to be missing

I bought this router to get something other than entry-level consumer devices for my new home network. For wired, it really delivers. It doesn't take long to set up, it offers VLAN support for creating network segments, and several VPN solutions that I use extensively when I'm away from home. However, WiFi performance was poor. On my 500/500 fiber connection, I was never able to exceed 300Mbps on the 5GHz band, despite having other wireless devices that would use 100% of the advertised speeds…

I wish I read the reviews

I installed one of these last week. The second time I had to go back to the client site to reboot the router because the WiFi users couldn't connect. Apparently, this is a problem that users have been facing for over a year. I'll be installing the latest firmware tonight but if I ever have to go back this thing is back in the box and back to Revain. The cheap Chinese brand router I bought to replace the RV260W will go back in place and I will refund my buyer for the router and labor. I WILL…

Powerful and reliable

This Cisco RV160W served as a hardware upgrade from the Cisco RV042G, which unfortunately fell victim to a surge - no, it wasn't connected to a surge protector. The RV Series SMB routers have always offered me reliability and functionality, from my first RV042 over a decade ago, through the aforementioned G variant, to the RV160W. earlier Cisco equipment. The built-in Wi-Fi radios allowed me to ditch the cheap Linksys router I had connected to the RV042G as a wireless access point. Good…

Good working small business router with 8 LAN ports.

I am a 70 year old home user who installed and maintained VOIP telephony and intercom systems prior to retirement. I guess that makes me an entry-level IT pro. LOLI had a Cisco RV4000 Ver-2 4-port router that was past life (2008-2018) and chained to an 8-port switch. It's time to move on to something that's still vendor-supported. Something new, it took me some time to figure out how to program this device, but it wasn't too bad. The biggest trick for me was that the DHCP server settings are…

Shutdown when Wi-Fi disconnects

You should know that I've worked with configuring Cisco devices (routers, switches, access points) mostly from the command line, so I'm not a typical home user. It's an entirely web-based interface, not so intuitive for non-technical users who may need more than just "plug and play with a few clicks to create an SSID for a wireless connection name". I was kicked out less than two hours after setting it up. from WiFi. I thought I did something wrong trying to understand the configuration options

Don't waste your time - almost everyone has a better router

This is a stable router, but the user interface stinks (and I'm good), the features are user-centric to an external management server, and the reach of this unit is pathetic. Additionally, the router's internal certificate has expired and nothing I can find or have tried fixes it, you can't use the Cisco router management app, and online support is limited to the manual. So if you really need a usable router, you shouldn't buy this semi-finished product. It's unbelievable that Cisco…
