Poor quality good for sewing

I have purchased these before and have been pleased with their overall performance. Not so much this time. The lead in the blue pencil has been inserted incorrectly or the wood has not been drilled correctly. Whatever the problem, the lead is pushed through the tip of the pencil. Also, the leash breaks too easily. No hitting the dollar here. This will be my last purchase of these items.

Pros
  • availability
Cons
  • dull packaging

Great for labeling fabrics

Exactly what I was looking for! They are amazing! They are perfect for marking patterns, quilts, embroidery and anything else you need to mark onto fabric. Three color options mean one of them is rather easy to see. I haven't had any trouble rinsing or washing them so far, but your mileage may vary depending on the fabric. They seem to last longer between sharpenings than I expected which means they last a while.

They are quite expensive but I find they work better than chalk for me

Love them and have used them for many years. Much easier to use than chalk. The only problem with them is that the "lead" wax, whatever it is, is very soft - so the marking compound cracks or crumbles very easily, especially pink. So you have to keep sharpening them, which makes the product a bit wasteful. I hate chalk that doesn't even mark half the time and erase the other half before you even start cutting or throwing. etc. This was my favorite alternative.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • Bad set

Mandala schemes to paint were COMPLETELY missing!

These pens are the ONLY ones I currently use for drawing mandala patterns on black painted canvas/stones. Pink and blue also work with white or lighter colors. When the paint is dry, simply wash away the chalk lines with a clean, damp sponge or cloth (no paper towels or tissues!). The pens are quite soft, so they need to be washed off completely. So be prepared to sharpen frequently to keep the lines sharp. I buy 2-3 packs at a time. Other chalk pens (or white pens) will NOT wash out…

  • Everything is fine!

Works but still looking for the best way to tag fabric.

The pins leave a line on the fabric that will stay on most fabrics when hand quilting. You can't get an exact point with a pencil. If you sharpen this pencil to a good point, there will be splinters of lead all over the place when you try to use it. Insufficient sharpening results in a thicker line and sometimes a piece of the pencil breaks off anyway. Due to breakage, these pins wear out much faster than they should. I haven't had any trouble removing it so far, either from the constant…

What's the fuss?

I've been using these pens for a year now and to be honest they are completely useless. Here's a summary: Pros - Works reasonably well on regular cotton. Disadvantages - easily break when sharpened - they wear out very quickly when marking fabric; Expect to sharpen them every few parts of the design you are tracing/marking - due to the softness of the tip, they don't stay sharp for long and make VERY broad lines - they're not ideal for use with a ruler, see previous point - don't work with…

Cons
  • Requires socket

Sharpen, mark, break, repeat.

I am very skeptical of all five star reviews. They are very, very difficult to sharpen (and I'm good at sharpening pencils with a good sharpener). Every time I had to sharpen these pencils (there is no difference between the colors) the lead broke 1-2 times before I could get enough lead out of the pen to write on it. I never got a point because it was impossible - the line would fall out immediately if I even got close to a point. Instead, I sharpened a bit, often just on one side, so I could…

Pros
  • Also very useful for marking when sewing, embroidering and patchwork
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
