Excellent Downcut Router Bit

The CMT 4-inch downcut router bit is a game-changer for woodworking. As my tests showed, it delivers a smooth and accurate cut, leaving no tear-out along the cut or on the surface of the material. The carbide cutting edges stay sharp for a long time, making it an excellent investment for those who demand high-quality cuts frequently. However, the price is slightly higher than some of its competitors, which could be a con for some customers. Overall, I highly recommend this router bit forโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Smooth and accurate cut, durable cutting edges
Cons
  • Higher price compared to competitors

Buy a pair, you will need them

I use them in a Jasper wheel jig to cut holes for speaker mounting. After 6 4.5" circles the bit was already so dull it got hot and started burning through the wood instead of cutting it clean. In addition, the cutting edges already have grooves that leave their shape on the cutting edge of the material. Very disappointed. My Freud 75-102 was much better.

Pros
  • High quality tungsten carbide, excellent finish on top of workpiece Down ejection of chips
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Incorrect Description - Not 3/16 "

This cutter actually has a 1/4" cutting diameter. If you look in the CMT catalog the 3/16" bit is 192.005.11. If you need a 3/16" bit, you probably want this one. Revain has it in the tools section (http://www.amazon.com/CMT-192-005-11-Carbide-16-Inch-Diameter/dp/B000P4NQHU). Revain refunded my purchase so thanks to them. But you probably want to buy the right bit first.

Pros
  • For cutting, copying, calibrating and routing wood, plastic and laminate products
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
