Tool worked, not compatible without buyback

Confirmed that it works for my car model. The screws that came with it didn't fit and I had to go out and buy metric ones. I also had to use the small holes in the tool for my small screws but they didn't line up with the crank pulley so I had to use big holes which made positioning messy. But in the end it worked and the tool has good durability.

Worked great! on Tools & Equipment

This tool arrived on time and enabled us to replace a defective crank pulley/harmonic balancer on our '05 Legacy. The tool is made from high quality materials and we have not experienced any bending of the bolt (bolt) as others have described (we recommend clamping all four bolts into the pulley if possible). While we'll likely only use this tool once, we still saved over $150 by avoiding towing and shop work by replacing the pulley ourselves.

  • Handsfree

I couldn't have done the job without it

Used to change the timing belt on my 2011 Subaru Outback 2.5i. Without this tool I would never have unscrewed the crankshaft pulley bolt. And I would never tighten a bolt to the specified torque. If I never use this tool again I will get my money from it. Some reviews say the bolts bent during use, I didn't have this. I have a degree/training in radiological sciences and engineering, so I'm just a master of shade trees. I am considering hanging this instrument as a trophy in my office.

Does exactly what it was made to do

Definitely a bit pricey but the savings of having to pay someone to do the timing belt work was worth it to me. I'm sure you could probably easily come up with a contraption to do the same, or do the tried and true broken rod trick, but I didn't want to delve into either of those methods. This will be a tool that unless you're dealing with timing belts/water pumps all the time will just more or less pick up dust, but in my opinion it's worth it if you need it. Quality seems genuine, well madeโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • unreliable

Quite expensive but if you work with Subaru often you will need this tool. Yes, we all know you can use a starter to loosen that crank bolt, but how about getting it back to torque spec? Maybe stick a screwdriver in the flywheel? Sounds sketchy. And what if you remove the engine for repairs? This tool answers all of these questions. I bought another one for the camshaft. Both work great, I'm not a mechanic by trade but I still don't regret buying this tool. Thanks to Subaru Mike on YouTube forโ€ฆ

Easy to use without a headache.

Used to remove the crankshaft pulley to replace the timing belt. First time I did it and this tool made it so easy. I've seen YouTube videos of people pressing a brake rod against a car frame and quickly revving the engine to break the bolt's torque. That seems easy enough, if a bit dangerous. But how do you tighten and tighten the screw when you're done? With this pulley tool it was easy to take the torque off and then just as easy to tighten. Never worry about pry bars flying through theโ€ฆ
