    This is my new tool for every day.

    Really beautiful and practical. I have a few other gadgets that do the same thing, but now I just want to use this one. It was more expensive but it was worth it. It can power a 2.5 inch drive with a single USB cable. Very convenient because you only need one power supply for large drives. Works as expected with SSD (old adapters don't work) and looks good. I really wish it was USB 3.0 but I still prefer it to others.

    Handy little data recovery tool

    I bought this to connect my damaged laptop drive from a 2005 HP laptop and preserve the data. Connecting a 2.5" IDE drive worked fine and there was no need to 'master' the drive or even install the USB drivers that came with it (on Windows XP SP3). At first glance it seemed impossible to connect my HP laptop. 2.5" hard drive to this adapter but I spoke to tech support who was very helpful. He explained that I must first remove the proprietary HP connector that is installed on the hard drive and

    I had some old IDE hard drives from old computers and wanted to recover the photos I'm sure were on them. This CoolGear theme gets the job done. High quality power supply, the kit includes all necessary cables. Reading old IDE hard drives was easy, I even looked at some old floppy disks, what nostalgia.     When retiring old PCs, we had a struggle with erasing information from the hard drive, often on non-working computers.     Great tool for working with old discs!

    I retired seven old PCs and wanted to make sure the drives were erased. I used the CoolGear® SATA and IDE COMBO USB Hard Drive and Optical Drive Adapter Kit: Limited Edition Pro Series Aluminum Enclosure to connect each legacy drive to my current system and transfer all relevant legacy data from the legacy drive to my current drive copy; The system sees CoolGear and the old drive as a USB drive.     Not as strong as it seems.

    Does the job but definitely not as reliable as it looks. The "metal" body feels almost plastic. I wanted something stronger than that because sometimes you have to run them in awkward spots and at weird angles. I seriously doubt this thing will last very long. UPDATE 10/23/2014: I used a SATA drive and it works as expected. Today I had to connect an IDE drive and the connector didn't even light up. I had to lean it against my laptop to keep it in place.
