Tiny Buttons. Tiny pen. Tiny screen.

Pros: Waterproof. Cons: It's fairly small, making it difficult to hold it over a 400-degree oil pan if you have big hands; the screen is also tiny and built-in, making it difficult to see, especially in low-light conditions; The biggest downside is that it takes a lot of tries to press the super small button before it actually turns on. I will keep this one as a backup but I will get another model for everyday use.

Broke on first attempt to replace battery

The tab on the small battery door is weak and broke off on the first attempt to replace the battery. Now we can't use the thermometer anymore because the battery compartment needs to be waterproof. UPDATE: I contacted Cooper Atkins and they sent me a replacement battery cover. Your customer service is excellent. I'm glad I bought from a manufacturer that stands behind their product. However, the door remains flimsy and I broke the first replacement they sent me. I inserted the second one very…

A handy little tool for all sorts of things.

I put it in my pocket when I'm grilling when cooking in a slow cooker to check the cooking temperature accuracy of other kitchen appliances. You press the power button, put it in your food for about 3 seconds, set the temperature, press and hold the button to turn it off, put the protective cap on and put it back in your pocket. Also, I don't just wash the metal probe, I wash the entire device to make sure my dirty fingers don't transmit germs. and it still works. My experience: The time to a…

Great for home use, but if you're a chef don't drop them on the floor.

For some reason we have to use them at my college where I cook so there is no other option. Accuracy is usually within three degrees, but in most cases it is accurate. The problem with them is that sometimes they stay on when I get home, I have to test them to turn them off to save battery life, and after a few drops on the floor they keep going abnormal and I have to get a new one to buy . So I bought five of these, and in the year and a half since I've been in this kitchen, I've had four…

Right out of the box

Update March 20, 2020: I love using this thermometer when cooking at home, use it several times a week. While it's not an instant read, I'd say it usually gets close to temperature within about 3 seconds. If I could change something about it, I would like it to have a backlight as I often use it outside at night when grilling. , but I tested it right out of the box in a small amount of boiling water and ice water and it showed 100.1°C and 0.8°C respectively, which is within the stated accuracy…

6 seconds? More like 6 minutes!

I bought this to replace a 20 year old that was used very well. It says this will read the temperature in 6 seconds, not even close. More like 6 minutes! Okay, that's an exaggeration, but it took me almost 2 minutes to read 32' with ice water, while my alter took just over a minute. To get to the boiling water it was slightly better, taking over 90 seconds, but again the 20-year-old model took half the time. I've used it on a number of items alongside a model I bought when I was with Johnson &…

Best Kitchen Thermometer

Best Small Kitchen Thermometer. You can use this to check the accuracy of everyone else. Reads fast. A good use is to check how hot your tap water is. Drain the water a little until hot, then check. It should be at 130 degrees Fahrenheit to disinfect dishes or laundry. Dust mites die at this temperature. It doesn't have an automatic timed shutdown, so you have to press the power button to turn it off. But I left mine on for a few days and the battery lasted over a year. It has a button cell…
