Very well made - sockets and socket wrench sets

This is a very well made, high quality socket. I've had Craftsman tools for years and thought it would be great, and it was. I used it for my 5/8" lawnmower socket and it worked great. It holds the spark plug securely and releases it when you want it. It's good, thick and lasts a lifetime. Definitely recommend.

Pros
  • Practical item
Cons
  • Some defects

Does what it's supposed to do

This will help me change the spark plugs on my Volkswagen. My dad was the family mechanic and his favorite tool was an old Sears Craftsman. I have a kit with one of these but it doesn't hurt to have a spare and I save money by changing my own spark plugs instead of having the dealer do it.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Trade in possible

Excellent candle holder. You need a socket extension.

Please remember to buy an extension socket. Many modern cars have a coil that sits above the spark plugs. So after you remove the ignition coil, your spark plug is deep inside. Hence the extension. It has a rubber grommet inside to help you remove the spark plug and lower the replacement.

  • Amazing
Cons
  • If in doubt

Choose another

As others have said the rubber liner sometimes stays on the spark plug instead of the socket which is quite annoying. I ended up using a regular deep socket and a magnet to pull it out and used that to insert it, but as the rubber insert remained on the plug I just reached out with long needlenose pliers to pull it back out. .

Swapping spark plugs is a joke.

This makes changing spark plugs a joke. It got stuck in the connector once the last time I changed them, but that's probably because my ratchet extension locking mechanism was a little weak. If this happens to you, simply unscrew the spark plug and then the extension cord should reach back into the outlet. Then try re-tightening the spark plug and hopefully the socket doesn't get stuck on the next run, this worked for me. Still highly recommended.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Basic - ideal for power tools and hand tools

Very simple, thin-walled, with rubber insert to grip the fork. Slim. Short. Connects to any universal joint or extension for hard to reach spark plugs. Before disconnecting, mark the cables and take photos with your phone for reference. When I was a kid we didn't have camera phones. We used tape and a pen and marked each wire and position. Use a wire puller so you have the best leverage and your hands don't slip off and damage the wire connection. Use a spark plug tool with a flourish. , long…

Completely inaccurate technical data

Attention: Whoever wrote the technical data for this article is completely wrong. First, says the thing weighs 1.32 pounds. The item weighs approximately 5 ounces. Second, the length is 4.5 inches. The actual length is less than 3 inches, which is enough to install a spark plug. If you have a deep-seated plug and don't have a ratchet extension, you're screwed. The item itself is rated 5 stars as stated by other reviewers.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • High price

Doesn't hold the plug in the socket well

On first use the rubbery insert that was supposed to hold the plug in the socket fell out of the socket, the plug fell to the ground! The only purpose of buying a special spark plug socket instead of a standard deep socket is to prevent this. It's clearly not as good as the foam inserts I've used before and nowhere near as good as I would expect from Craftsman tools.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • old

Nice head but rubber inside WILL LOSE

Bought this because my spark plugs had oil on them so thought I might replace them after replacing the rocker cover gasket and spark plug gaskets. Oil WILL cause the rubber inside to slip out of the socket and you need to be strategic when you know your spark plugs have oil on them. I've found that cleaning after each use reduces the chance of the rubber inside coming loose. Overall this is a good selling point and I wouldn't put you off buying it. Just be careful if you find yourself in my…
