Description of CURT 40090 Chrome Trailer Diameter

RELIABLE STRENGTH. This trailer hitch ball is rated to tow up to 10,000 pounds gross trailer weight. It is constructed from hot-forged steel for reliable towing strength and confidence on the road ahead. PRECISE FIT. This tow hitch ball has a 2-inch diameter to fit virtually any 2-inch coupler. The ball shank has a 1-1/4-inch diameter and measures 2-5/8 inches long for secure attachment to a trailer hitch ball mount. CORROSION-RESISTANT. For long-lasting resistance to rain, dirt and rust, this hitch ball is finished in a durable, protective chrome plating. The mounting platform must be at least 3/8 inch thick, and the hole size must not be more than 1/16 inch larger in diameter than the threaded shank. SECURE INSTALL. For dependable strength, this trailer hitch ball comes with a zinc-plated hex nut and helical lock washer. It also has fine threads for an enhanced hold on the ball hitch (450 lb.-ft. torque required). TESTED FOR SAFETY. To promote the highest level of safety while towing, this CURT tow ball is tested to U.S. VESC specifications.

Heavy Duty Hitch

Heavy Duty Tow Ball. You'll need heavy wrenches to tighten this little one. I had to clamp it in a vise to attach it to the hitch receiver. It takes some strong force to get it nice and tight, but it should all pull.

Pros
  • Slim Design
Cons
  • Crumpled

CURT 40090 10,000 lbs., 2 in. diameter. Hitch Ball

Very strong and well made ball mount. The worst part was having to take it to a trailer dealer to tighten the ball nut to over 400 ft-lbs. Once installed on the hitch mount, it will definitely not fall off.

Pros
  • Great Price
Cons
  • Nothing

Forged Steel Hitch Accessory

Forged steel ball hitch rated for 5 tons (10,000 lb. GTW). I coupled this hitch ball to CEQUENT CONSUMER PRODUCTS 2133111 (hitch ball mount) which has a gross weight of 8 tons (16,000 lbs). It's definitely overkill for my F-150, but I feel perfectly safe with any loaded trailer attached to my truck.

Pros
  • Hands Free
Cons
  • Expensive

Extremely strong hitch ball with extra large nut

Very strong ball for this type of hitch. We also recommend purchasing a 1-7/8 box end wrench to tighten the nut. Hardware stores and auto parts stores don't always stock keys of this size. Reven has them. Do not attempt to tighten the nut with a pipe wrench or other improper tool.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Quality made fittings.

Curt is a respected manufacturer and although their towbar is now manufactured in Asia, Curt continues to be an OEM supplier of GM trucks. This piece of metal is smooth, the nut screws on and spins freely, and I had no trouble installing it. Since GM went with Kurt, I've been more open to things like possible metal failure than other Asian manufacturers, especially some private label brands.

Pros
  • GOLS Certification
Cons
  • Some Challenges

Excellent quality - fit and finish.

How do you rate a trailer ball "I love it"? It just seems weird, but with the skewed rating system, I'm following the trend. There is nothing wrong with this trailer ball - the fit and finish are perfect. The Curt brand is trusted and with years of buying towbars and related products I have no hesitation in buying something that bears their name. This is a great trailer ball as far as trailer balls go. maybe you will love yours too. I am not sure.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Tradable

did a great job

I ordered this ball and attached it to my hitch to tow my new boat. The price was very reasonable and cheaper than other products and sellers doing the same. I only used it once and then removed it along with the tow hitch. I can't say anything about the durability of the paint or if it rusts because I haven't had it that long. The order was delivered in 2 days which was perfect as I only had 4 days between placing the order and the date I had to tow the boat.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Not the best

Rusted after 3 months of use

When Curt's 2 inch chrome hitch ball arrived it was beautiful and tough looking. - I've been a quad for two months. The trailer hitch ball endured a dozen trips with no problems; that is, until I started noticing surface rust wherever the thin chrome had been scratched. After three months, Curt's hitch ball looks like it hasn't been used in the weather in 10 years. There is more rust on the surface than chrome and looks terrible. For the record, I have a 20 year old U-Haul hitch ball, it has…

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Not bad
