Review on CURT 40090 Chrome Trailer Diameter by Craig Shah

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Rusted after 3 months of use

When Curt's 2 inch chrome hitch ball arrived it was beautiful and tough looking. - I've been a quad for two months. The trailer hitch ball endured a dozen trips with no problems; that is, until I started noticing surface rust wherever the thin chrome had been scratched. After three months, Curt's hitch ball looks like it hasn't been used in the weather in 10 years. There is more rust on the surface than chrome and looks terrible. For the record, I have a 20 year old U-Haul hitch ball, it has tarnished but shows no signs of surface rust. It appears that after the chrome has worn away, the base metal of this ball hitch is steel, which is very susceptible to oxidation. I'm going to buy another 2" ball hitch at my local RV store.
