Fits Cellar Mechanic

Need a tool to pull out the headset cups. My main toolbox is in a different state so I wanted to put together a cheap set and this removal tool fits the build. Have used it on 1" and 1-1/8" cups with no problems. I will look for another larger one for tapered headsets. Good value for money.

Solid Boom Stick for Bicycle Tools and Maintenance

I am repainting my nephew's old bike for my niece and had to remove the headset cups. The bike's specs say it uses a 1" threaded headset, and this tool fits perfectly. Several hard hits with a hammer and the cups immediately popped out. The tool appears to be well made and has withstood many bike teardowns.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

A MUST HAVE TOOL for bike tools and maintenance

I'm a bike mechanic in Moab, Utah and have never had a problem removing headset cups with a long drift. Then a bike with rust-welded cups shows up. Silly! This tool is fair. Works without a sore throat, without straining. So easy, in fact, I'm surprised it's not in my box yet. A MUST HAVE TOOL, highly recommended.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Some trouble

I've tried everything possible to make this work. Including splitting wood and breaking a screwdriver. Thought I would only use it once but have now used it for headset and bottom bracket cups. I recommend a good rubber mallet for this. I have a 16oz Tekton fiberglass grip and it's a nice, useful kit for bike work.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • There are problems

Worked fine for me.

This tool helped me remove my old 1" 34mm threaded headset. I had to spread the ends of the tool a bit, but it only took a few seconds. I was able to remove the headset in less than a minute of work. This tool isn't particularly heavy, but when I used it I didn't feel like it really mattered. It didn't seem to last long. Strength to remove the headset, so I think the strength of this tool is good enough.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Poor

Not impressed. General.

I don't plan on removing bottom brackets often, but the thing just doesn't work. The "petals" are too hard, which means you have to pierce them. That doesn't give me any ideas, even if the bearing HAS to be made of a much harder steel. Once the petals were in place, they didn't expand enough and were uneven so I only had to lightly tap the bearing from side to side. It wasn't expensive but I think I'll invest in the brand if I ever have to do it again.

Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Works great!

I had to bend the ends to properly fit the headrests on my Giant Glory DH bike. It's quite difficult to bend the ends and I had to use a large wrench as leverage. However, they are easy to bend at the back if you need to make them smaller. Overall I was surprised at how easy it was to remove the headrests on my bike. I made sure the ends were the right diameter, and a few clicks and the cups were removed. Anyone who loves maintaining their bike should have one of these tools. You don't have toโ€ฆ

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Requires socket

Does the job for bike tools and maintenance

I need an inexpensive tool to remove my headset cups. It works out. It looks a bit fiddly, but works well. I'm not sure how this will work over time, but I don't think it's a tool I'll be using on a weekly basis. It allows you to remove the cups without tying them as it presses the cup evenly around the perimeter. I considered using a masonry drill bit for this, which might work, but I think it would damage the inside of the steerer tube and require more time and patience. I think this productโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Some little things

Suitable for removing upper cups but not larger diameter lower cups.

My lower headset cup measures just under 2.5 inches and the instrument falls through as it doesn't expand enough to seat and evenly hit the cup like I was hoping. For me I would have liked it if all the bells/teeth of the tools were in contact with the edges of the cup so when knocked out it would come out evenly instead of first knocking out one side and then the other. side, then the other side, and so on until the cup comes out. It didn't leave any notable notches, but I think you're takingโ€ฆ
