Started off well but messed up firmware issues

DLink got off to a phenomenal start with this router. It was fast, stable, and received rave reviews almost everywhere. Then it was time to update the firmware and it went downhill. Search a little and you will find many people who are having severe wireless performance issues and annoying issues like: B. locking their router every few days. You can either use the latest firmware to get various security improvements and bug fixes but risk those issues, or you can use an older firmware that will

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Available in white only

Everyone checks the wireless signal strength when using a wireless connection, but I'm not sure everyone checks the connection speed. I've used Netgear and Linksys N routers in the past and never had a problem. I wanted to upgrade to a gigabit router with USB print server capabilities, so I settled on the DGL-4500. In short, if your desktop or laptop doesn't have a D-Link wireless adapter, you can probably connect at 54Mbps (G) with N adapters as well. D-Link Technical Support confirms this…

Small and powerful networking products

I bought this router when my family outgrew our 7 year old Linksys router. Internet surfing has become slow as cold molasses and we have broadband connection. Although I haven't had any problems with a Linksys router for many years, after carefully researching many websites, I decided to purchase this D-Link router. After reading some reviews of most N routers, I was worried about lost signals. Most N routers are probably faster, but are subject to frequent signal failures. I read many reviews…

Gamer's Perspective

I'm the typical 24-year-old college grad who loves nothing more than coming home after work and playing video games for an hour or two. I carefully researched which router I needed and chose this router because it prioritizes video gaming over other network activities. Although I need a router that supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, I still prefer this router over Linksys and DLink, which have done just that. I figured that in the long run, once I upgraded my laptop and other wireless devices, I…

Great when it worked but died four months out of 1 year warranty

I was pretty happy with this router until it died suddenly last night during a raid (we're playing World of Warcraft). I'm sorry to say that (a) it only had a one year warranty and (b) the warranty only expired four months ago. D-Link would be happy to help me troubleshoot if I'm willing to pay for it - thanks but no thanks. My cable company worked with me for free and we fixed everything except the DGL-4500 itself as the cause of the problem (the router couldn't connect to the cable modem and…
