Like other reviewers, I had a DI-784 that broke down spontaneously. Since the device was faulty and failed about a year after purchase, D-Link replaced it. My device started dropping packets (no connection - packets!) after about a month of use. It drops packets on both wireless and WIRED connections. Rebooting helped initially, but then I had to reboot more and more times until it didn't help at all. As reported by several others here and elsewhere - the device worked fine (great actually) for a few months and then started freezing. All LEDs are lit - reboot and everything is ok. He does this once or twice a day, sometimes more often. If I'm going away for a few days then it's safely locked when I come back. Updated to the latest firmware 2.40 - did not help.

I bought my 784 about 16 months ago. I use it with DI-7100AP. About 3 months later the problems started. Tried updating the firmware didn't help. The block would snap into place with all the lights. Resetting requires a hard reset. Normally it will be blocked again within 5 minutes after turning it on again. If I reflashed the firmware it would work for a while. I called DLink. For the first few months everything worked fine and setup was easy. But after a few months he just died! There is no guarantee - nothing can be done. This is the second Dlink router I've failed with. Switched to Netgear - much happier!
