Description of DataCAD

DataCAD is a professional-level Architectural CADD program for design, presentation, and documentation. DataCAD is one of the few software applications that are developed specifically for Architects, and it is the only CADD software ever to be endorsed by the American Institute of Architects (ca. 1987). Originally developed by an architectural firm more than 30 years ago, DataCAD is one of the stalwarts of the CAD industry.

It's a great tool for professionals looking to streamline the way they draw. With data import and export functionality, the ability to make changes directly in the drawing itself, and a comprehensive array of measurement tools, DataCAD is a powerful solution for those who need accurate, high-quality drawings. The interface may look intimidating, but it isn't difficult to learn; in fact, DataCAD provides a comprehensive tutorial when you start up the program. There are no learning curves here…

Pros
  • With data import and export functionality, the ability to make changes directly in the drawing itself, and a comprehensive array of measurement tools, DataCAD is a powerful solution for those who need accurate, high-quality drawings
Cons
  • They include bar code readers, bar code labeling, etc.
  • When working with any database that contains numeric values, the units aren't included in the report so you will have to convert the numbers to the appropriate units.
  • Not sure how many times you can export/import before hitting a limit.

I don't understand why they still exist.

Their website is completely broken. You cannot add any images. It takes forever to load pages. I am sorry to say that their customer service sucks. I emailed them twice about a problem with the site and I never received a reply. When I did try to email them I got bounced back to me. I called them twice. First time I spoke to a guy named "George". He told me that he would email me a copy of the ticket and that I should check my spam folder because he couldn't see it. Well guess what? That was in

  • You need an account before you can start working.
  • They don't offer a trial version so you will need to purchase.
  • It took a while to figure out how to do things.
