Reliable product best for external hard drives

Reliable product - Provides a decent first line of defense (to host a TrueCrypt container for example). I bought one in November 2014 and still use it daily. without problems. I'm not using it in an enterprise configuration, so I can't vouch for that aspect. Advantages of USB3.0 transmission speed

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Miscellaneous Miscellaneous

I have used other Ironkey products before but never.

I have used other Ironkey products before and have never had a complaint. Avoid this particular product at all costs! Doesn't work with El Capitan and had issues with the previous OS. This has proven to be a very costly mistake.

Pros
  • Good product for the price

That's a good ride! Too expensive for what you get but still good drive

I use it for work and it's a good hard drive. It's a little slow to read and write, but it's a VERY secure drive and a VERY good way to back up all your important files! Works great on MAC and PC, just be careful with formatting. If you format it to NTFS and use a Mac, you need to add "NTFS for Mac" to your computer to write to it. However, this applies not only to this drive, but to anything formatted for Windows.

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
  • For old

Old USB-2 works better

I use both this new USB-3 model and an old USB-2 Ironkey 1TB. The new Control Panel is a nice feature, but this new drive isn't as stable in Windows 7 as the old model. A backup sometimes stops midway and needs to be redone, and on an office computer, a new hard drive is sometimes not recognized and the computer has to be restarted. Still, it's great to be able to safely carry sensitive files in and out of the office - and even on vacation.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Does it work?: external hard drives

I can think of 200 million reasons why I know encryption works. :) I really hope this guy can get his 200 million bitcoins from his IronKey.

Pros
  • quick swap
Cons
  • flimsy

False advertising - does not work with Mac OS X 10.10 and 10.11

The website http://www.ironkey.com/ states that the system is compatible with Mac OS 10.6+. That is not right. I've connected it to both Yosemite 10.10 and El Capitan 10.11 systems. In both operating systems the hard disk is not mounted. When plugged in, the red light comes on, the yellow light comes on, the drive clicks, then the yellow light goes off and it just sits there. I wrote to Imation Mobile Security Technical Support and said the following: We are currently testing MAC Yosemite…

Pros
  • Several competitors
Cons
  • are unreliable
