Set of 6 Density Cubes. Set includes Brass, Lead, Iron, Copper, Aluminum and Zinc. Includes a plastic snap top case for convenient storage. Cubes measure 10mm (0.4") on each side. Excellent for physics classrooms. Density Cubes have a wide range of educational applications for all grade levels, including density investigation, specific heat and specific gravity exploration. Due to the nature of raw metals, some oxidation or corrosion due to humidity and storage may occur. Simply scuff any oxidation off to make cube look brand new again. Designed to be used in an educational setting and are not fabricated using ultra high precision machining. Expect tolerances in the +/- 5% range of any stated dimensions (although they are generally much tighter).

Not suitable for student labs

These are SMALL. Totally wasted money. Not really good for students to measure or use. I wish I had read the description better because they are really useless for students.

Pros
  • Designed for classroom use and is not ultra-precise. Expect tolerances in the range of +/- 5% of all specified dimensions (although they tend to be much tighter).

Ideal for density classes

I used these building blocks to teach two different age groups (4th grade through high school) about metal density. Because all six cubes have the same volume (1 cubic centimeter or 1 milliliter) but different weights, they were ideal for teaching students both density and the metric system. They come in a nice snap-on case. I highly recommend them for science or physics classes!

Six metal cubes of unknown origin

It gets one star because it contains six metal cubes and another star because it's basically the same size. The dice are probably made of brass, lead, iron, copper, aluminum and zinc. I say "probably" because I can't verify what's what, so it's not very useful. Also, one of the cubes is covered in stains. I have them for talks, but they're just as useful for that as they are for tutorials - not much. So now I have six metal cubes on my desk that I can't even start a conversation with other than
