I didn't use a suction cup or glue, I just attached a clip to the rib of the vent and it works very well. I like the ratchet-like prongs for tightening the side clips (the rubber inside the clips) on the sides of the phone. I think the product is well made. I've been using it for over a month now and I'm generally happy with it. I used 3M glue to install it on the dash after reading all the instructions. After a few weeks it started to lose its grip. That was fine with me because I decided to just remove the suction cup from the sticky disc and use the suction cup to attach it to the windshield. This mount is better than I expected. The suction cup works very well, even too well. I had a hard time removing it after about 3 months so I could move it, but given today's phone prices, that's not a serious issue. This is the best phone mount I have ever bought. It's great that the accessory maker finally realized that giant phones (Notes, LG V, Iphone+) weigh a lot more than other phones.
