Fix My Door: Hardware Hardware

The door with the existing latch is broken. The big hardware store didn't have such a stylish fastener, and the one they did have was relatively expensive. Then I found what was the right style and very affordable. Replacement wasn't necessary due to weird geometry, but I was able to replace the spring. The spring seems more fragile but assuming it will hold up I would buy it again to replace the other side.

What you need

I bought a house and all the doors were ball latched so none of the closets would stay closed. I went to the store and bought a bundle but they didn't fit the pre-drilled hole. Lowes only sells one size/type, I had no idea there were other sizes. I have bought several different versions from Amazon but this one fits perfectly and is of even better quality. I will be buying many more of these and have already returned all the others at great prices.

So very shiny and so very cool!

Freshly moved into a new apartment, in the pantry door with bolts. I could add HEAVY rusty ball locks. In fact, you had to lean back to open them reasonably smoothly. See attached images for before and after results. Maintenance hasn't helped much and apparently they just don't replace these devices. I was doing a little research with my Revain Fu and came across this amazing product from Design House. It was very easy to install and now the doors are very smooth. Tip: Make a rubber mallet to…

Worked fine for a while.

Seems to be a pretty good ball trap that is well made. Installation was tedious, but that was to be expected. The holding pressure is quite good, but not strong. I hoped this would stop the cats from trying to force the door open, but they still managed to get past it. The reason for the 2 stars is that one day I opened the door and there was a loud *THWACK* noise. Not knowing what it was and wondering why the steel ball was bouncing around the room, it only took me a second to realize that the

Don't be surprised if you see a ball on the floor after 6 months or a year

I have mixed feelings about this product but overall I'm disappointed. The good news is that the metal base (the part that goes in the door) and metal plate are strong and well constructed. The bad news is that the cylindrical piece of metal that screws into this base and holds the ball and spring in place isn't well made. I've bought a couple of these now and after 1-2 years I found the ball on the ground and the spring broke. What happens is that the cheap threaded cylindrical part flexes and

Works well. until that happens. :(. Fixable though.

ok i paid the installer to hang my doors so i persuaded him to install them too lol just over a year since purchase and another couple weeks waiting put in i find the ball on the ground and the spring is up left pic right pic still works looks like there might be a part missing i have two cats want to guess where this part could be? , replace or even remove without damaging the doors. Specially deserves $300. That includes the guy I paid to install everything. I believe there is a screwed part…

Matches my 1-3/8 " thick wood/glass French doors perfectly

It was just what I needed to install a new French window in my living room. 1-3/8" "Thick, 30" wide doors with glass, center panel made of glass. As another reviewer noted, the black metal cover around the ball housing and spring housing is removable. The rest of this section is aimed primarily at those looking to do this on a bare frame that didn't have a ball-lock installed previously. I used a 13/16" spade bit to drill the hole from the top. A 7/8" bit can work with metal trims on the body…
