The best and only cantilever pads to consider

I replaced the same pads from an old bike from the 70's, the pads were still soft and sticky but worn out. He has lasted almost 2 decades on the bike. Very happy with them, quality rubber from Taiwan!

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Safety

These brake pads work well!

These pads work well. They have a good coefficient of friction and I don't have to hit the brakes hard to stop. No rattles or squeaks, braking is very smooth. I had no problems with the installation, but I had to make some minor adjustments in the console.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Damaged

Good Value - Cycling

Used on an old bike. There are two grommets at one end of each pad (you can see it in the product image) which means they must be installed in a direction towards the rim, but no information has been provided to explain if this is the case. Whichever way I put them, they seem to work fine, so maybe I got it right or it doesn't matter.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

brand new but replaced with the Kool Stop Salmon mix.

I'm a hard racer but even IN DRY WEATHER they scared me on my first run. I've been using Kool Stop Salmon Compound on my rim brake bikes for over 20 years. return to them. It may be ok for my 40kg son but not for an adult rider! I've installed cantilever brakes since the 80's so it's not a problem with custom setup.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Good but not perfect

No more squeaking best on bike brakes and parts

I bought 2 sets of these brake pads to replace the cantilever brake pads on my Canondale M400 bike. I was using a bike and the brakes squeaked with every use. All I needed was a 10mm wrench and I was able to loosen the old brake, remove the old pad, put in the new, adjust the rim spacing and tighten. Do this 4 times and you're done. I'm so glad I don't squeak when I drive anymore, but unfortunately I'll miss the opportunity to passively tell people I have their backs :)

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful

New brake pads Stop squeaking and your bike

Loud brakes barely stopping your bike? You probably have an old bike with hard, slick pads. It's time to replace them with new rubber pads that can stop the bike almost instantly and stop the squeaking. You'll need some tools and determination to make adjustments, but it's worth it. This can take less than 1 hour of your time. However, instructions are not provided; and it requires some mechanical heads. For some people with a hammer and pliers tool kit, a bike shop is the best bet.

Pros
  • Loads of positive vibes
Cons
  • No power

Not impressed. for parts and components

I really don't like these pads. Braking performance is pretty poor and after a certain descent the pads make an unhealthy sandpaper-like noise and braking performance seems to disappear. As a result, a lot of black plaque remained on the rim. I have Shimano pads on another center brake bike and they are much better. I will try Kool Stops on this bike for comparison. UPDATE: Kool Stops is way better. So far I like modulation and stopping power. When I removed the Dia Compe pads they felt very…

  • Great for me

twists, there may be a risk

I wish I had to give 1 star but I have just realized that the pad is not securely attached to its shaft and I think can be dangerous so I took it off and put the old ones on until I got one else can find a brand. After installing the bike and testing it for 2 minutes I thought they were fine. Haven't used it since but just noticed that the last isn't aligned with the rim. It was actually loose where the rubber seal could rotate on the axle or shaft, about 1/8th of a turn without much effort…

Pros
  • everything is fine!
Cons
  • Dear

The stem is too big for my old Kent mountain bike.

I bought an old cheap Kent mountain bike from Goodwill for $7 to use as a beach cruiser. It has good tires but the brakes squeak like a banshee so I ordered those Dia-Comp pads. Too bad brake pads cost more than the bike costs. Unfortunately they will not fit Kent cantilever brake mounts. The shank diameter of this Diacompe pad is exactly 1/4", while the Kent bike has a 6mm shank. The Diacompe shank is too big to climb in. I think the pads will fit, although the OEM Pads have an appropriate…
