Spirit levels are good for medium-precision work. The bases aren't milled or polished which is frustrating, the material is cast. They are more expensive than some budget accuracy levels. Let's see if the digital functionality saves enough time in the field to be worth it. Also, it's a paid app which is annoying. I don't want to have a dedicated tablet or phone to connect to them and any tech who signs it has to download and pay for it.

This is a spirit level, not a digital protractor. As a plane, this DWL-1500XY is wonderful. It can actually be used up to the third decimal place, which is 1/1000th of a degree. I had no problem customizing the level with the Android app - be sure to download the free version and then unlock it. A quick start guide might clarify this. Calibration is very easy and for me the Bluetooth interface is amazing. I have mobility issues and can easily post a level and view results on my phone. I mainly use the 2 axis function. I bought the 1500xy to align tool changers and shuttle systems for VTC and HBM machining centers. Overall, I found the level and accompanying app easy to use and fairly intuitive. The level is not calibrated. Took it to a precision granite square and put it through the calibration process. The fill level is now read out and repeated within reasonable limits. I am restoring a 1960's Clausing lathe and really need a way to determine level with high accuracy. I saw them, was very interested and finally decided to take the plunge. Pros: It seems very accurate and repeatable. I had to calibrate but I couldn't find anything wrong with it. Just make sure you have a very smooth and flat surface with no movement. Also be patient.
