SS Vertical DO Solution

Great product for those looking to convert Vertical DO to SS. Can be used under or over the chain. Heavy-duty construction gives added confidence when drilling through peanut butter mud. It's much more durable than a switch.

Pros
  • GOLS Certified
Cons
  • Unthinking

Perfect single speed conversion

I have owned this product for a number of years in the past. It works stable. I've never had chain tension issues since converting my old multispeed mountain bike to singlespeed. It's easy to install. Easy to set up. And definitely worth every penny spent on it.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Blank

Skip it for mountain use.

Get what you pay for. I didn't mind too much manipulation to make it work, but the fact that the single speed chain doesn't fit between the rollers is unacceptable. First use, probably paused 20 times to reset the stupid. Save money. Maybe four sidewalks or a commute, but not a whole mountain.

Pros
  • Elegant Design
Cons
  • Very Expensive

Absolutely useless.

Tensioner does not match the shape or form of my single speed chain and sprocket in any way. I can't figure out what this stretcher is for. Absolutely useless! Also, the shoe packaging guide contains some additional items that are not included or listed in Revain's product listing. The instructions are also useless. Don't waste time and money.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Unsafe

Too much movement on transmission components

My biggest issue with this is that the tensioner flexes and therefore the chain continues to come loose easily. It's not a spring pulling it back, it's in a locked position and after rolling around a bit it moves. It hooks onto the axle and screws into the anchor where the derailleur should be. So if you try to lift the wheel, you have to unscrew the axle nut completely.

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Available in white only

Helps transition to single speed idle

Well made and durable. No springs or anything that could break later. It's a little pricey, but it's also worth buying others that break or don't work as they should, only to end up buying this one. I just bought a second one for another MTB. Only works with 9-speed chain. Single speed chains are too thick to fit in the idler pulley. The narrow, wide chainring in combination with the long stainless steel sprocket eliminates any chain slack. Locktite can also help if aggressive pedaling causes…

Pros
  • Free for educational use
Cons
  • Disappear

Best option I've found for single speed conversion

This thing works great! I bought one of the junk spring models for $25 and broke it right away. It pulls into position and stays there. It also doesn't stick to the spring compressors. I use a very heavy half link chain on an old 90's steel frame Mtn bike that I built for the pump track. I've passed this bike quite a few times, even on some rocky trails, and it's still in place. I didn't use the lock either. Anyone who says it doesn't work has no idea. I will be using one of these in my next…

Ultimate Conversion Mech

In my opinion this is the best option for converting a road or MTB to single speed with vertical dropouts. Includes shims or hub shell kit, but far outperforms spring loaded pulley and cage units. During installation, it is important to eliminate as much slack in the chain as possible to ensure reliable and functional chain tension and chain line accuracy. When properly installed, the polypropylene hub provides near-silent operation and encloses the single-speed sprocket almost as completely as

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Robust solution for tough abuse.

No assembly instructions. I fitted it incorrectly the first time and over time (while riding of course) I realized that with the chain constantly loosening something was wrong, but I can't understand what was. So I had to do a quick internet search to solve this problem. Everything was ready and installed correctly, I had to attach an aluminum angle arm from the MDR to the bike frame to strengthen the mechanism and avoid the loosening problems I experienced a few times. even with a properly…
