Easy for the Wife: Docking and Anchoring Equipment

My wife struggled to get the rope over the pilings when we entered the docks. Now she simply uses the docking stick attached to the boat hook, reverses the loop and pulls the boat hook out so she can pull the line. Works every time. And now it is convenient for her to moor even in the new port.

Best item I have bought for my boat

Best item I have bought for my boat. (Owning a boat for over 40 years.) Completely eliminates any drama or hassle of mooring. As my wife and I got older it became less and less appealing to jump on and off the boat during the season. This is not necessary with the docking station.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Not bad

Only one sling on pylons

After 5 minutes of following the instructions on how to tie a bowline knot the dockstock was not securely attached to the extended boat hook. He fell in the water 3 times before I said "forget it" and lassoed the pylon like everyone else. A trick that seemed like a great idea but ended up not saving time or making things easier. Just practice your cowboy skills.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Mandatory for every boat

Have been using a docking stick for about 5 years. As you get older, deck diving is no longer an attractive option. The docking handle allows you to safely detach the stern from the cockpit. Docs aren't always knowledgeable (or don't follow directions). Now we're going to have one and tie it to the center of the ship. They only serve to initially fix the boat and are then replaced by conventional docking cables. We find that we have more control when we use a lighter cable, and it can then be…

A very useful aid when docking - beware!

I really want to give this docking device five stars. I'm seventy, my wife is sixty-five. Getting down from the boat to the pier to catch ducks has become increasingly difficult in recent years. Review: This spring I used the docking stick a couple of times to stop the boat before her bow touched the dock as we soloed into our slip at the end of the springline amidships. I can run her far from the dock with the oar forward and she will sit on the finger while I dismount and belay her. My wife…

Slips off the spike too often, regardless of bowline size or technique.

I've tried different routes, using different sized bowlines and even wrapping the spike twice; but still found it had a tendency to detach from the top. My boat is longer than my slipway, so I reach out of the cockpit and thread the loop on the dock handle through the first cleat on the corner of the slipway, hoping to use it as a spring cable to pull me to the dock; but when I pass the top the loop tends to detach from it. Sometimes this happened even after doubling the size of the bowline and
