Good factory replacement

Molded liner in throat, solid construction, no leaks after initial installation. Coolant opening to throttle body tight.

great replacement OEM

I replaced the stock plastic thermostat housing with this metal housing. I also got a new thermostat. I haven't had any leaks or other issues with it. The metal seemed pretty solid compared to the OEM replacement. I read other reviews saying they broke their ear, I think they over tighten the screws.

Pros
  • great price
Cons
  • crumpled packaging

Keeping coolant in the radiator

This was one of the best parts purchases I've made for my 2006 Aveo. A crack has developed in the original one-piece plastic case. Installation took about 30 minutes. Don't forget to remove the washers from the old screws or you will have trouble installing them properly. That was the advice I got from Youtube.

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • Reliability

Easily interchangeable with engine cooling system and air conditioning

Inexpensive replacement for cheap original plastic case that breaks easily. Easy to replace, complete with thermostat and gaskets. The ideal time for the change is when working on the toothed belt/water pump, as the coolant is drained anyway. However, if you only want to replace this case, you won't lose much coolant. Two #12 screws hold it in place.

Pros
  • Beautiful packaging
Cons
  • Fading

The updated metal case was much better than the original plastic case but the thermostat remained open after about 3 hours of driving and returned a fault code "P0128 – Coolant temperature is below the thermostat control temperature” as the fault code is being processed/replaced . As a mechanic for MB, Chevy and Infiniti I've seen many new factory parts out of the box so I'm not surprised or upset just disappointed that I have to do it again.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Volume

Leaking like crazy on a 2001 Daewoo Lanos

I spent 3 hours getting this thermostat housing for my 2001 Daewoo Lanos to work but couldn't stop it from leaking even when the car wasn't running . I've removed the case and tried reinstalling it many times, changing the hoses and tightening/loosening the bolts, but nothing worked. There seemed to be a leak between two pieces of metal that were meant to be sealed with a piece of rubber wrapped around the actual thermostat. I finally gave in and bought a (solid) plastic thermostat housing and…

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Safety

Still better than the plastic body of the OEM thermostat. Can be made from high quality steel or aluminium. Allows the user to remove the pre-installation thermostat for a pre-installation inspection (OEM is a one piece housing on the 05 aveo). Before installation, check the thermostat while it is hot. Make sure there is no gap between the two flanges of the screw holes (tabs) or the tabs will break when tightened. Don't ask me how I know that. I ended up buying another case and found that the…

Great replacement but confused about the thermostat

Great two piece part, much better than the original OEM plastic. Easy to install, no leaks. I think the key to no leaks is not to over tighten the 2 mounting bolts. No seal, O-ring. With this setup you will lose about 1/2 gallon of antifreeze, it will spill out the engine side when you remove the case. After reading about other thermostat problems I went ahead and bought a separate thermostat. Everywhere I've looked the thermostat for my 2006 Aveo is listed as 90°C/195°F and that's the one I…
