🔒 Dorman 924-702 Ignition Lock Cylinder: Reliable Performance and Security Review

The shop wanted $550 for a new ignition switch and key cylinder. An hour and a half of a very simple repair and both were replaced for $175. Retail is $100 more expensive, which is of course what they charge in stores.

The ignition cylinder I had to remove and install in this NEW part did not fit. The new part was too small in diameter to fit in the ignition cylinder. I called the supplier and explained the problem, they never answered me. The only way to use it was to remove the reading chip from it and put that reading chip in my old ignition.

Our Pontiac Grand Am has had a problem for YEARS (we've had it for over 10 years, it was our rarely used car). Previously, if we had to drive it, especially when it was cold, we planned to try to start it in 10+ minutes if 1) it wouldn't start and we used an alternate mode of transportation (all the kids load, drive the main car, eventually someone drop off and come home, repeat), or 2) the security light came on and had to sit for 10 minutes to reset.
