Doulton W9121709 10 Inch Sterasyl Ceramic Review

I wasn't very happy with the performance of this filter. I used it in a homemade bucket filter system and it took almost three days to filter 4 gallons of water. In addition, the water had to be filtered several times to completely eliminate water discolouration.

We have been filtering well water in our remote home in the Philippines with Daulton filters for twenty years. They work well producing clean clear drinking water and are very easy to clean with a ScotchBrite sponge every few weeks. We have a 4 filter system that purifies water very quickly; I estimate about 2 liters per hour. A good product.

I built my own 5gal. bucket water filter sys. with 4 filters W9121709 with washer and wing nut. Buckets, a nozzle, and filters cost about $100. Works perfectly. With 4 filters, 5 gallons are done. very fast. 5 years. and still works fine. Better than spending $400+ on a ready-made one. We know the brand! :)

Good fit for Katadyn filter housing. But it doesn't filter nearly as well. I wouldn't recommend them as a replacement if you plan to use them on outdoor hikes where poor water quality is known. I only use this to filter rainwater in a non-electric cabin. I would not use them to purify water from a stream, river, pond etc unless you use an additional cleaning agent such as iodine tablets, UV light, chlorine etc.

Bought two of these for camping and possible survival needs. Did a filtration system installation using two 5 gallon food buckets. Uses it to filter about 8 gallons per day including overnight use. (4.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.) One or two days a week we take care of drinking and cooking water for the week. No more trips to the water reservoir.
