They are made of aluminum and are not suitable for normal clothing use. Too bad I didn't do my due diligence - I needed upholstery buttons. Having not bought self adhesive button sets in 20 years I assumed it would be the style/quality I am used to. Not even close. Aside from being aluminum, their construction hardly withstands any tension applied to the stock without the rear end loosening.

I like it a lot, I found a link to this kit on the upholstery blog. I remake chairs and add tufting and it's such an easy way to make buttons. HOWEVER the instructions say that if you are using a sheer fabric add another fabric or backing. Mine is transparent enough for a button to show through, not too bad. I was converting an old coffee table into a tufted stool and wanted to cover the knobs with the same upholstery fabric. I was concerned as many reviews said it wouldn't work with upholstery fabrics, only thinner materials. However, I didn't find anything else and decided to give it a try. I personally like being able to make fabric buttons to order without pressing an expensive button! The first one was tricky but I revised my technique and made 40 upholstery buttons. The thinner the fabric, the lighter! Short nails help. I also improvised and used a pie masher from my kitchen on a blue pusher and hit the end of the masher with the flat end of a meat mallet 3-4 times on a button, which works well! I used this to make 48 buttons out of very thick premade upholstery fabric for two tufted ottomans I built and it was a nightmare. Little did I know they were only for fine fabrics - my fault for not doing my due diligence.
