This design is good when it comes to being metallic. But it has one major downside. Below is a spot that isn't flat, I don't know why. If your thread spool is not the right size, it will cause big problems. The bobbins force the thread underneath, causing tension that breaks the needle. Happened 4 times already and I just twisted the piece of wire and didn't use the base. Hits most of the target. The bottom must be flat, not concave!

I bought a holder so I can use bigger spools (haven't tried the cone yet). My inexpensive machine only supports vertical bobbins, not cross-wound bobbins. I'm happy with how it works. First I chose the Dritz 896 because it looked sturdy and the main shaft is one piece. Other similar items have a shaft that consists of two parts that connect and are very weak.
