It is almost impossible to poke a needle, even a sharp, thin one, through plastic and pull it out. I had to ask my husband to take a 1/16" drill bit and drill holes (I gave gifts and had to install five sets). It was a 1-1/8" black magnetic clasp. It would be better to pay more and pre-drill the holes.

I love using Dritz Magnetic Buttons on bags - they are easy to insert without the need for hand sewing. They have flexible metal pins that you just have to tilt to keep them in place. Before inserting these latches, it is recommended to attach a small piece of fusible paneling to add a little extra strength/support. Just a word of caution - keep the two halves SEPARATE until installed. If they come together before you attach them to the fabric, they will be quite difficult to separate.

I bought these to try in a cosplay costume and they weren't strong enough for my needs. These sew on buttons are a bit pricey but well worth the money. I've just made a large bag and was looking for a simple magnetic closure. This latch has enough strength to keep the bag closed. However, they are easy to open. They are thin enough to look good on the lining of the bag. But with a little thought I could tuck them in between the lining and the outside to make a fully hidden latch. confusing. DO NOT attempt to match the plus and minus signs. The magnets will not be strong enough…
