Description of Drop Planck Mechanical Keyboard Kit V6 — DIY Compact 40% Ortholinear Layout, Kaihua Hotswap Sockets, Programmable PCB, USB-C, And Aluminum Case (High-Pro, Black)

THE NEW, MORE POWERFUL PLANCK: The ortholinear 40% Planck mechanical keyboard is hailed for its unique layout—and the new version is even better. Laid out so that every key is within two units of your fingers on the home row, this compact keyboard minimizes finger travel. V6 UPGRADES: Now offering six unique color choices, a new ARM STM32 processor that provides more power to the PCB and the USB-C connector—and it comes in two case styles. Another upgrade? The new Planck has Kaihua hotswap sockets so you can swap out your switches whenever you want without even picking up a soldering iron. STURDY, COMPATIBLE PLATE DESIGN: The new Planck comes with an MX plate (for MX switches and clones) which support 1 x 2u, 2 x 2u, and Grid layout. Made from 304 stainless steel, the plate is heavy and stable. STRONG ANODIZED ALUMINUM CASE: We've tucked the plate into the case for a more streamlined look—one you can get two different ways, depending on your preference. The kit has all the hardware to assemble the keyboard, plus four 3M rubber feet so it won't slide around. FULLY PROGRAMMABLE PCB: The matte black PCB features an ARM/STM32 chip and can be programmed however you like. It comes pre-programmed with the standard layout, but it also has a reset button to reprogram the keyboard.

So compact that its hard to go back to normal sizes.

Seriously its like the opposite of once you go black. Once you go planck its hard to go back to a different board for the same purposes. The ortholinear layout feels natural and the depth takes some getting used to but its highly usable and incredibly customizable. I'm talking you got 16 layers you can tap into using QMK configuration. Definitely suggest for someone looking for a new experience or a neat keyboard or honestly someone looking for optimizing their desk space. If you still want a…

Pros
  • Nice and compact
Cons
  • The 40% ortholinear layout may not be suitable for those who prefer a more traditional keyboard layout

Great if you like Ortholinear Keyboard

The keyboard has amazing compact profile making it great for small desks. Additionally, the weight and feel of the keyboard is great (surprisingly heavy for its size). The one issue that could become a problem is the type c connection. Although I have not had a problem, the type c port looks like it could become easily damaged over time. Overall I really like how the keyboard is working for me now.

Pros
  • ‎Laptop, PC, Laptop, Linux
Cons
  • The aluminum case may accumulate fingerprints easily, making it difficult to keep clean

Excellent, Flexible Little Keyboard

Can’t recommend a Planck enough! You need the patience to get used to ortholinear, but once you do it’s very comfortable and I now prefer using it over normal keyboards. QMK is incredibly flexible and customizing your layout is perhaps the most useful aspect of these keyboards; making effective use of layers has the potential to completely change your workflow. I highly suggest giving this keyboard a go, especially if you’re comfortable with tinkering and programming. Even if you’re not, there…

Pros
  • FULLY PROGRAMMABLE PCB: The matte black PCB features an ARM/STM32 chip and can be programmed however you like. It comes pre-programmed with the standard layout, but it also has a reset button to reprogram the keyboard.
Cons
  • The black color may show scratches, scuffs, and dents more clearly than a lighter color option

Do not buy. in my review

When you spend good money on a custom mechanical keyboard, you expect to get quality parts.Keyboard worked day 1 no issues, went to sleep, and woke up the next day to a dead keyboard.Suspecting PCB is trashed somehow. After searching around on Reddit, seems like a very common problem.

Pros
  • Best 40% ortho I've tried so far
Cons
  • The DIY aspect of assembling the kit may be overwhelming for those who lack technical skills

Not a Drop but MASSDROP!

You are getting Massdrop x OLKB V6.It was easy to assemble,QMK is not easy for the beginners if they want to change layout or add one, case i received is a bit thinner than shown on pictures and it look pretty good for 40% keyboard. Will return if i find some software issue. I would recommend to people who like pain and suffering. XDBtw i use Arch.

Pros
  • ‎Black
Cons
  • The lack of dedicated media keys may be inconvenient for those who frequently use them
