Haven't tried charging it with the crank. I've kept it in the window since I got it to keep it charged. The instructions related to the display or the operation of the device are not entirely clear. It took me a while to be sure I read the power level correctly.

Fully charged battery, dead after a week of not being used. The hand crank is useless, it doesn't provide a usable charge from the dead. The lights work. The solar panel is by no means instantaneous when left idle for an hour, but in that hour of full sun on the beach it didn't provide usable power to chime or change the battery status indicator.
