newer model lost important function ETHERNET CONNECTION

12000XL has no more function as Ethernet network scanner [!}; at this price it should be. Its previous version, the 10,000XL, includes an additional board for Ethernet connectivity and that makes a big difference. Both models are excellent scanners, the best I've found for large format work, but the Ethernet loss is very puzzling. Now only USB2. THERE WAS NO EXPLANATION FROM EPSON TECHNICAL SUPPORT. 10000XL is still available.

The best medium/large format film scanner!

I have used many scanners over the years, most manufacturers no longer support good scanners. Despite the price, this scanner is excellent for medium to large format films. This is way better than consumer flatbeds. He ran several test scans and the results are very clear. I will save this for my film photography workflow. Highly recommended!

Expensive, a little fiddly to use but takes great shots

It costs way more than I was willing to spend and wouldn't have spent as much if there was a less expensive option to replicate Save You thousands of family photos that I have inherited. However, there are no other options that can handle the different sizes, shapes, etc. of the photos I needed to archive. The learning curve for using the system is quite steep initially, but once I found a few YouTube videos that helped me and read the manual (thoroughly) I was able to figure it all out. When I

Another boat anchor

I had a previous model of this scanner. He started scanning with horizontal lines. The official repair center said it would cost $2,000 to fix and told them to throw it out. I bought a new model for $3700. It's WORSE than the old one. Now I have to pack this HUGE, HEAVY box of scrap metal to ship it back. Give me a root canal instead!

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • No form required

I had an old Epson flatbed scanner that worked fine but was very slow. I have owned and sold two different drum scanners which are great but for fast processing of a full roll of negatives forget it. With this scanner you can load two film holders at the same time. So if it's 35mm, that's 48 frames of film at a time. Silverfast runs a batch scan. So once you have everything set up, press the button and away you go. However, you need to pay around $100-$150 to upgrade the bundled version of…

Scans large format film and prints

Epson knows how to scan. This is an older USB 2 only product, so it doesn't offer high performance. "Manual" is practically absent. I have a lot of experience with scanners, but this job took a lot of time. I finally tried their tech support - at least they offer tech support. The problem was that the position of the film holder had to be offset from the side and top of the scanner glass. It took 3 different technicians over 3 days to find a "senior" technician who understood the problem. All…

Not perfect but still the best tabloid sized scanner you can buy

I bought this scanner to scan a variety of things: photos, documents, books and 3D objects. Image quality is excellent and depth of field is amazing; With adjustable focus, he can handle almost anything I can throw at him. The text next to the spine, which is peeling off the glass, doesn't bother him at all. The included SilverFast software that influenced my purchase decision for this scanner was a big disappointment. It worked fine at first, but then it started producing soft-focus scans even
