If you're a DirecTv customer like me, know this before you buy: Adding external storage will prevent access to your internal recordings. This would be useful to have on the list page. Instead, this information is included in the Quick Installation Guide in the box. They say you can unplug and restart the DirecTv DVR and watch your recordings, but I don't know if I believe that. for your information

I've only had this drive a few weeks but my previous 2TB worked flawlessly with DirecTV for 2 years. It's a bit noisy and the blue light seems to be flashing all the time. But that's in a place where neither is a problem. I obviously like it since I bought another one. I think the description says it comes with cables, but it comes with USB 3.0, an eSATA cable and a power adapter.

*I have worked with many computer drives over the last 30+ years. This was the easiest setup. All I needed was a quick start guide. * My only complaint is with the DVR. I want the old files to be transferred to the new drive or both drives to be used. Remember, you can still use both drives, but not both. Also note that switching drives will cause the DVR to turn back on (similar to a reset). The process takes about 5 minutes.

I have 5 different Fantom drives. I have never had a single breakdown or failure and am a regular customer. I understand they fill them up with hard drives of different brands, but so far I've been lucky. The only problem I have (1.) is that the drive will not work with the included 1 amp power supply. I was willing to return the unit until I replaced one of the other adapters with my other Fantom and the hard drive worked great. I looked and saw that other power supplies put out at least 2…

I bought this product to use as a DVR expander for Directv. I've made several attempts to get my directv receiver to recognize it, to no avail. To make matters worse, there was no telephone. to call and get technical support. Luckily, there are other working solutions besides Fantom Drives. I gave this item 1 star for tech support because the system didn't allow me to give it a zero.
