Bought another one, worth the money. Be careful with Windows 8

This is the second Fantom G Force 2TB USB 3.0 external hard drive that I have purchased. The first device I bought was connected to my Windows 8 machine for a long time. About a month ago the first device failed I thought. After speaking to the computer manufacturer late at night, I found out that the southbridge drivers on the motherboard needed to be updated. So after updating the Southbridge and BIOS, Fantom was working again without any problems. What I am talking about here is that the…

So far, so good. - Computer and accessories

A week later: I have a hard time trusting external hard drives due to my terrible experiences with Western Digital and Seagate. I decided to try a new brand and saw that this drive had some good reviews. So far so good, it's quiet and quite fast on USB 2.0. I run a media center on my Mac Mini and recently ran out of disk space. I moved all my media to this drive and it plays with almost no lag. It installed within a week and it worked pretty hard with no issues. The review will take place in 6…

Reliable and consistent use with Windows 7

Product works great, just as described. Very easy. I just connect it to my Windows 7 laptop and off we go. I don't use it that often, mostly just to watch or listen to saved media and occasionally back up my computer, but it's never given me a problem. The product does not overheat and feels slightly warm, which is good. Used it occasionally for about three years.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • This pisses me off

A beautiful body, but a fatal flaw.

I was very pleased with this drive and the beautiful (and in a good way heavy) case is well worth the extra price compared to what Western Digital and Seagate offer. loud disc. And absolutely annoying. It's not consistently loud, but every time I open a file I hear a judder and feel my desk vibrate for several minutes. The sound is not defective (fortunately there is a 3-year guarantee), but it is not quiet either. Worse, sometimes it produces a very high pitched sound. Constant. Up to several…

Impressive external hard drive

My previous external hard drive was a 500GB Buffalo Technology; It was fast and hassle-free, but my storage needs at 14 months were higher. After researching competing 2TB drives and reading some horror stories about other devices, this one really stood out and the price was right. After almost a month of heavy use, I found it very cool, very quiet, and better built than the Buffalo (and many other drives I've looked at). High-quality metal body, which is also conducive to heat dissipation…

Easy setup, easy data transfer, and great buy!

Fast delivery and easy installation as the drive was formatted for my Windows PC. It took about an hour and a half to transfer all my photos, movies, music, saved downloads, images, etc. from my HP USB 2.0 External Hard Drive. The Phantom handled it easily and was gently warm to the touch. USB 3.0 speed is much faster than my 2.0 USB stick which I really prefer, good buy for now! "I'm happy with these results, Pee Wee!"

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Negative gift
