Type of review

After careful research and reading several reviews, I was happy to add this new tool to my home office. However, I was sadly disappointed by the lack of features and functionality at the advertised price. The only thing I really hate is that to empty the bin you have to constantly lift the top (heavy) part of the shredder, being (1) very careful not to touch the ground when grabbing the hanging scraps . paper from sharp, shredding "teeth" and (2) it seems to make an even bigger mess of fallingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Dope ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Following the lubrication instructions provided, the machine stopped working. I figured I might have to throw it out and replace it because nothing I've done will get it working again. Finally, I read a review from another customer who said that this amount of oil could cause paper dust to stick to the sensor. He said if the sensor is covered in paper dust, just take a cotton swab, dip it in a small amount of alcohol and wipe the sensor. It worked! I also started using sharpening and greasingโ€ฆ

I waited for it to cool down following instructions

. When I first used this chopper, before the basket was even full, it froze. I waited for it to cool down as instructed and tried again to no avail. I checked for a paper jam (there wasn't one) and waited all night to make sure it had cooled. In the morning it didn't work again - the electricity is there, but the gears are stuck. I called Fellowes support which was closed over the weekend. I checked their website for FAQs and was instructed to remove the screws and check for a paper jam, whichโ€ฆ

Affordable Lightweight Shredder

I bought this shredder because I needed a lightweight shredder for my home office. I was tired of taking paper to work to destroy, but I didn't want to spend a fortune on something that would only be used occasionally. It seemed to fit the bill and the price isn't bad. However, light duty is everything. When they say 11 sheets, they mean it. At 8-10 sheets it starts to stick. With 11 hands, I wasn't sure what was going to happen (although it was). Having to shred a large batch after receivingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • I Hold My Fists
Cons
  • Useless Features

This is my second shredder purchase of this model after the first died after 5 years and 11 months. What I think killed it was destroying the credit card by single handedly inserting it directly over the security tab/switch in the paper slot. (In the future, I'll tape the plastic card away from the center so it doesn't go right over the counter.) I've used, owned, or looked at many paper shredders over the years. I've had larger professional models with higher capacity drawers and have ownedโ€ฆ

Fellowes is still my favorite chopper

I used my previous Fellowes chopper for over 15 years before it started choking and couldn't handle what I was feeding it. Maybe I should have oiled more often. I did an autopsy and found compressed, shredded paper stuck in the cutting disks that I couldn't get to until I disassembled it. I think it put too much stress on the chopper motor and it stopped working. Overall I was satisfied enough to contact Fellowes again for a new one. It's almost the same size (near the knee), although theโ€ฆ
