Was looking for a big thin pestle - my previous one resulted in scratched knuckles when used in a drinks shaker. It's thin enough to fit in a Tom Collins glass and big enough to grip almost any shaker or glass well.

This particular goon was recommended by Wirecutter and after some research I decided to pull the trigger and buy it. I totally agree with the reasons why he was chosen. It feels ergonomic and isn't very slippery, even when wet, so you don't lose your grip. At first glance, the size makes it unwieldy, but if you're using it with a larger cocktail shaker or glass, having a larger muddler comes in handy. After several uses, the odors are not absorbed, it lasts well. would recommend.

I wanted to like this pestle but it cracked seriously about 2 hours after first use. I sent it back and ordered another one and the same thing happened. Both madlers arrived in great condition and looked and felt really good, but if they split it's a big disadvantage, especially since you can't really wash them. **Updated 6/1/21** I have used the Muddler several times since receiving it. I would say mineral oil is a necessary step. For the time being, after preparing a drink, quickly rinse the business end and wipe it with a bar towel. No sign of a split. Still looks the same as in the photo I've attached. Excellent quality if you are willing to do a little prep before first use. OP. It appears to be a reliable, well-made bungler. I replaced the plunger that came with it, it was painted and felt cheap.
