An indispensable element for proper tool edge maintenance.

When you buy a quality carving knife, you need a sharpener that is properly shaped to keep the razor blade on it. However, the particular shape of the woodcarver's tools lends itself best to this sharpening. The shapes you need to get the best edges on the V notch, shoulder blade and blade are here to keep the tool as sharp as possible.

Handy Flexcut Notcher

Essentially purple lacquered wood shaped to line up the inner profile of the Flexcut palm recesses. The leather portion of this sling is a joke (very thin cheap leather) so plan on investing in or making your own notch or knife sling. The gold flexcut webbing is very difficult to glue to the belt, but it does it well. work as soon as you receive it. You can do it yourself (see various YouTube videos), but it's handy. If the leather was of better quality I would rate it higher.

save your money Do it yourself.

Like most reviewers, I thought it was bigger. Much more. If your hands are big enough to grip a basketball like I do, this isn't the safest thing to use in your sharpeners. What really impressed me was its value. I guess I assumed there was some level of quality here given the Flexcut name on it. Anyone with a little experience with a Dremel can easily make one of these. Also make it to the size you want/need. It's nothing more than a small piece of wood that has been cut into shape and to…

Absolutely no gimmick

I know what you're probably thinking. Hell, I know it was me. I totally thought that SlipStrop was a gimmick. It looked like something for people who didn't know how to sharpen, or who couldn't make their own tape out of leather, denim, or wood. damn good job getting my knives and chisels sharp again. It's great for all my chisels, chisels, and regular pocket knives. The flat surface is a good combination of hardness and texture to really hold the mass and the sculpted areas work much faster…

It works. I like it.

Ugly but works great. I got Flexcut chisels for my birthday so I needed a sharpener that matched the brand's curved shapes. This has worked well on chisels, although it takes practice to find the right angle on the curved corners of the chisel, which require less sharpening than the center. The rounded sections on this jig help, and the finished chisel is as smooth as glass. I sharpened my knife with it and got an insanely sharp glass surface. Cons: Leather is pretty cheap. Any problems caused…

OK, but it could be better.

First of all, it does what it was designed to do. It can be used even by a beginner to sharpen curved instruments (for final polishing). The polish included in the kit seems to work well and the amount included should last a while. Now for the less desirable features. The wood in the packaging looks like a purple heart, but it's not. This is a very soft white wood with a light purple stain. Any use of the kerf will dent/bruise the wood, and any "misses" in honing the inside of the curved kerf…

Affordable solution to sharp edges.

I've just taken up wood carving as a hobby and have started using a range of Flexcut knives and chisels. I have a set of expensive sharpeners and could always make a razor blade on any knife I own, but I've had to get 'creative' when it comes to sharpening and edging some small chisels, including using an old cardboard box and a rolled one piece of leather. Then when I was looking for books on relief carving, I saw this and thought "why not". Now that I've had it for about a week, I'm confident
