Good line, works well. Made in the USA

I use this tape to sharpen razors and it works well. The line, as others have pointed out, is a US-made Illinois #827. underwear I use 30-50 strokes; the same on a russian leather belt and my razors are ready to go. I gave 4 stars as it would be nice if it was a few inches longer. It's not that bad, I'd prefer that. The width of this sling is just great. I was a bit concerned as some people don't recommend the Russian/Ribbed Hollow Shaving Belt (I have one), but this particular one works for…

  • Don't waste too much time

  • Some trouble

Break it and it will serve you well.

In case you don't already know, the working surface of this particular sling model is flesh side out. The top grain side is heavily ribbed and almost unusable, having been crushed by the rollers they used to compress the fleshy side and improve its strength. It is believed to be modeled on ancient Russian slings that used the flesh side to improve drag and reduce the number of passes for the same effect. (A little initial breaking-in is required for best results.) When I bought this due to an…

As for the slings, it's pretty cheap.

It's pretty cheap when it comes to slings and I was concerned because they weren't as smooth as I thought the slings should be, but after rubbing them with Fromm's sling bandage worked it great. I would say this is a good buy for those looking to get into razors but don't want to spend more than $80 for a quality sling.

Great first belt: shaving and hair removal

I don't know that people are dissatisfied with this product. I'm new to this straight shave but I've heard it's a good snare. I bought a sling bandage and green chrome oxide for the linen side. My blade had just been sharpened so I made about 30-50 rounds on the skin after bandaging the nooses and then shaving. The blade cuts well. What else do you need from a sling?

More or less excellent line.

First of all, these are Illinois Razor Strop Co. Model #827. This is an "Imperial Russia" line, meaning the skin side is pressed into a ribbed shape and you're actually flinging on the flesh side. It has more teeth than a standard strap, requiring fewer passes on the skin. Maybe Fromm bought the company, maybe both belong to a conglomerate. Anyway, I received an Illinois #827 and am in the process of reviewing it. The leather and canvas faceplates are of good quality, as is the hardware. There…
