Great camera but not for cold weather

This is my first mirrorless camera; I bought this 3 years ago when I was looking for a travel companion that would give me the same sensor size as my DSLR but without the bulk. I certainly enjoyed using this camera which is very full featured and well built. As someone who started photography in the sixties, I recognize and appreciate the retro style. easy to find and use the controls I need. There's a growing collection of fast lenses that I like too. However, I have one concern about the…

Fuji makes me happy with mirrorless cameras

First week: Image quality is pretty good even at high ISOs. The build quality is good, it feels solid in the hand but even better with the pricey $79 grip. It's the best of both worlds, meaning it mixes a little bit of retro with a lot of new technology. I've had three cable releases that I can use with this since my film days and the adapter also allows me to use some of the older Nikon manual lenses. The only thing it needs is the back button focus and I think that can be fixed in the…

Great little (size, not power) camera.

After years of lugging around a nearly 40-pound backpack, switching to Fuji's lightweight mirrorless system is one of the best things I've done in decades of photography. The sophistication of the Fujifilm system is quite unexpected, although it does require a steep learning curve that the manual doesn't help much with. (When will camera makers and manual writers learn to put in a definitive index instead of a useless table of contents?) I'm really excited about the camera, although I think…

Great alternative to a traditional DSLR

My first Fujifilm camera was the X100T which I bought and ended up returning last year. I loved the camera. It was light and small and I was so pleased with the sound and quality of the photos I took with it. But. this price. What if I want a different lens? I wanted something cheaper and be able to change lenses in the future. So I came to X-E2. Most current Fujifilm X-series cameras share the same X-Trans CMOS II sensor, so under the same circumstances the images should be the same. However…

Four months later – the right decision?

After four months of using the Fujifilm X-E2, it's time to reconsider my opinion of the camera and my switch from a DSLR. A bit of history to back up my credentials: Photographing since 1971, using over 80 film cameras from 110 to 5X7 and almost every brand of digital, occasional wedding and commercial photographer, running a four store regional photography business for 25 years. In August '14 I sold my last DSLR and switched to a Fuji X-E2. My reasoning: I wanted quality hardware that could…
