We've been using this mat for about a month. I wash it once a week and have had no problems. I tape the velcro on before washing and it stays that way throughout the wash. Blankets will become softer after a few washes. The pillow is still fluffy. I wouldn't recommend this for a big 4 year old and definitely not for preschoolers, but it works great for my preschooler. Can't beat the price, I've seen large and heavy sets for up to 3x what I paid for them.
