⌚ Gates TCKWP307A: Ensuring Precision with Engine Timing Belt Kit and Water Pump Review

Everything fits perfectly, looks high quality and came with "good" installation instructions. Tip: When installing, have a partner hold the belt while you install the tensioner, or use clamps and of course CHECK FOR INTERFERENCE 10/10 on the product: great quality and amazing savings!

I installed this timing belt/water pump kit less than 2000 miles ago. About 1000 km after installation, the engine began to creak due to a defective bearing. I thought the accessory belt tensioner had failed, but now it's raining coolant to let me know the water pump is junk. A lot of work wasted on this part.

We ordered this complete kit for a 2008 Subaru Outback that we have sold. The price was great but more importantly it was a perfect fit and allowed our company to give the customer everything they need to feel comfortable for the next 100,000 miles. We have used Gates products in our showroom for decades and they have never let us down.

I don't know when the change was made but it looks like Gates replaced the tensioner with a cheaper one. After installing this kit on my car, I noticed that the tensioner piston became soft. I was able to untwist the tensioner by squeezing its piston with minimal effort. The new tensioner does not meet Subaru specifications. I had to order a new higher quality tensioner to use this kit on my car. As you can see in the attached picture the tensioner that was provided to me with this kit does not

I have never had a problem with a Gates kit and most components have been fine. However, the water pump in this kit (only the part made in China) did not quite fit. All the holes lined up well but they weren't wide enough to fill the gap of the standard pump as you can see in the picture. Also, the pump was leaking, causing my car to overheat! The mechanic cited my early HG failure for a water pump leak through the drain hole at 12,000 miles. Gates says it's under warranty, but I can't find any

This is the 3rd or 4th of these kits I have used to replace the timing belt on my Subaru and I have been happy with each one also the price is a serious discount from buying separately of parts and the convenience of having all the parts you need in one box. The kit also includes a gasket to install a guard over the crankshaft pulley and some information on installation and torque specs, although I think it's best to rely on Subaru's official information for such things. This is a very critical review, so be prepared. When I ordered this kit I was under the impression that quality parts would be included. The product is expected to come primarily from Japanese suppliers, with the belt made in America and the water pump made in China. But everything except the belt is made in China.
