The light gives off a warm glow, not bright enough to see fine detail but bright enough to see where you're going. The automatic dimming function works very well. The device covers most of the socket as described and if you plug it the other way it has enough room to fit a standard sized plug into a different socket (see photos). I put them in bathrooms, hallways, bedrooms, wherever soft light helps.

We live in an old farmhouse with odd sockets. Often I have to go into a dark room and rummage around to look for a cord for an overhead light or to turn on a lamp. These lights are PERFECT. They don't block the output, they turn on when it gets dark and turn off when it's light. no fuss, no fuss! It fills the room with what I would call moonlight. It's like a full moon illuminating a room. Ideal for dark hallways or bathrooms. However, for some people it may seem too bright for the bedroom.

I have ordered several of these units from Walmart and they are great. Gives a flickering candle and a pleasant glow. However, two questions. The two I ordered from Amazon (the same ones from Walmart) don't flicker. It's just solid light. The second complaint is that you can set it up to use an empty socket, but you can't. This night light is pretty weak but in the right place under the right circumstances it's fine. This probably shouldn't be considered if you're looking to light up a small to medium sized guest bathroom. Speak enough light so you can wash your hands and go to the bathroom. These are very nice warm accents for any home. I have several "nooks and crannies" in my house that are well lit at night. Keep in mind that they are not intended for general lighting.
