What a performance difference in plastic cases

The plastic case with heatsinks, even at normal speed, periodically showed a heating icon in the upper left corner. In this case, hardware acceleration and overclocking on Raspberry Pi 4 8gb is configured as follows: [pi4] # Enable VC4 V3D DRM driver over dispmanx display to be perfectly stable and without thermal throttling, play youtube videos and web too surf same time. The vcgencmd Measure_Clock pointer shows 2GHz stability for a long time. A big boost to being able to use the Pi 4 not only

Pros
  • Computers and accessories
Cons
  • Some small things

The thermal interface design is terrible.

The machined "pads" on the underside of the heatsink that make contact with various microcircuits are poorly designed. Because the processor and memory chip have the same platform, the thermal transfer ribbon of the memory chip practically does not crease. Check out the Geekworm product to find the best option.

Pros
  • Single Board Computer
Cons
  • No insurance

Great fanless Pi case! No noise of course!

Excellent case! I have a Pi 3B+ running home automation software and this case is perfect. It feels warm (95F IR thermometer) but not too hot. It does its job well and keeps the Pi from throttling due to temperature. And since it's fanless, there's absolutely no noise or fan wear!

Pros
  • Features passive heat dissipation as there is no fan.
Cons
  • A few little things

What is the performance difference with plastic housings

Plastic case with heatsinks regularly showed the heating icon in the top left corner, even at normal speed. In this case, hardware acceleration and overclocking is configured on the Raspberry Pi 4 8GB as follows:[pi4]# Enable VC4 V3D DRM driver via display dispmanx 128over_voltage=6arm_freq=2000gpu_freq=750 It seems rock solid and has no temperature throttling when playing Youtube videos and surfing the Internet at the same time Measure_Clock shows stable performance on a frequency of 2 GHz for

Pros
  • Receptacle, double row, direct contact, 2x20 contacts, through hole mounting. Spacing: 2.54mm/0.1in
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

Cools well, works with 3B+ but GPIO access is too narrow

Use on Pi3B+. It keeps the system temperature a few degrees cooler (without a fan) than small fan heatsinks and has the advantage of not consuming power. Wi-Fi also seems to work well, even with the case on. The biggest problem is that you can't adapt to the GPIOs because the space around them is too small. It just looks like a design flaw. The included headers are a workaround for this, but you must use BOTH as one of them alone isn't big enough. And then your spade sticks out over the armorโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Compatible with Raspberry Pi 4B/3B+/3B
Cons
  • Can't remember
