Great for 3D printing rafts/props

I have a dual extruder 3D printer. I am using ABS on one extruder and HIPS on the other extruder. With Makerware (or another slicer) you can set up your prints to use HIPS through one raft/support nozzle and ABS through the other. not connect well at all. I figured I needed Limolene to dissolve the material. But I haven't even opened the bottle yet. I wouldn't do a real 3D print with ONLY this material. I've noticed that HIPS warps a lot with higher walls and is quite brittle. For HIPS I set…

Pros
  • Compatible with RepRap, Makerbot, Afinia, Solidoodle or any standard spool based 3D printer
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Non-General Filament

Given how this product is advertised I picked up a roll to see if it was a decent general purpose floss could act. The first problem I encountered was very poor adhesion to the bed. I use Printbite for my beds and it always sticks to the thread. Anyway, it sticks to some threads too well, but it always sticks to something. After the table temp rose above the ABS temp, I got some adhesion to the table - enough to allow small print to be printed. It took three attempts to print a 4.5mm high…

  • Diameter 1.75mm Net Weight 1kg HIPS Filament
Cons
  • Disappearing Filament

Fluorescent Orange; super strong; very impressive.

I think the mechanical properties of HIPS are pretty standard: very stiff, very light, a bit prone to warping on the build plate even at 110°C, but not like that terrible . like ABS. Actually the weight stunned me, you'll probably get a lot more filament than you would expect from a 1kg net weight if you're used to PLA or PETG (ABS I'm not sure). Neon orange, but glows orange in the dark. As if it were 20% white and 80% orange dye. Sections 0.8 mm thick and thinner are slightly transparent. I…

Pros
  • Filament roundness: +/- 0.07 mm
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
