Description of πŸ“Ί HAUPPAUGE WinTV PCI TV Tuner Card 190 - Optimize Your Windows PC Computer's TV Viewing Experience

The concept Interactive makes a great buzzword. But sometimes after hours of the thrusting and parrying interactivity requires of us, it's great to kick back and enjoy some couch-potato passive entertainment. The Hauppauge WinTV card is just the ticket. After a simple installation, this PCI board connects to your cable TV or to a TV antenna, and displays live TV on your computer monitor in a resizable window from 640x480 to 1280x1024 in 16 million colors. It does this by digitizing analog video either from its built-in 125-cable TV tuner or from external video input using high quality 4 - 2 - 2 AVI video sampling.

+ Easy to install and run / - Poor AV quality

I am initially using an eMachine T3025 (equipped with an AMD Athlon processor) with Windows XP Home Edition. Box, the WinTV tuner was easy to install. The installation guide tells you what to expect when installing the driver for the first time. After that, the program was easy to run and configure. The video quality was the same as watching a show recorded on a VCR, with no annoying white lines on the screen, to say the least, it was poor. The sound quality from the tuner was mono only and…

Pros
  • Looking forward to it
Cons
  • Nervous

Picture quality is bad

The picture quality on the screen is so bad it reminds me of VHS quality from the 1980's. Some of the positive reviews seem to have been written by someone so tech savvy that I wonder if they really work for the company. Also, these reviews were written in 2003. It is now 2005. A higher quality product is available. I AM NOT SATISFIED AT ALL WITH THE PRODUCT.

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
  • The list is getting long.

Really old version internals

Nowhere in the description was it stated that the device would not work properly on newer versions of Windows (i.e. anything older than XP). In addition, the manufacturer does not provide any drivers for current Windows versions.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Ease of installation. Easy to use.

I installed the map on my Windows XP computer, everything went smoothly. Two minutes and I got up. In addition, there are excellent step-by-step instructions for those who are not familiar with computers. For the price, this TV tuner can't be beat. I highly recommend.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons

Poor video quality - does not work with MCE

My biggest gripe is that this card does NOT work with the new Windows Media Center Edition. You have to install it first to find out. Add to that the poor video quality and woefully inadequate web support feature, and you end up with a subpar device.

Pros
  • Mobile
Cons
  • Security
