Obviously it falls apart after a few uses (especially with alcoholic beverages). However, the straws have no strange taste or smell. And it didn't soften or soften like paper straws. I still hand wash them in cold water with dish soap and let them air dry before and after the first use. I really liked the way it looked in my gin and tonic cocktails.
