the screw had large surface defects. I was able to set the edges fairly easily with a hand file and sandpaper, but I couldn't figure out what to do with the screw. I contacted the main supply company and they were very surprised to see the photos I sent in - obviously I got a rare lemon - but they didn't hesitate to order a new screw from the factory. So overall I'm happy - it's a solid, heavy vise, perfectly sized for a drill press.

This vise made a great impression on me and I bought it after looking at Revain and seeing that the vise had excellent, if not very many, reviews. Time will tell but it appears to be of good quality and I have a feeling it will last for many years. Ideal vise for moving various projects. I think the price is good. Most well known branded vises like this are significantly more expensive but I think these vises are comparable. The 2 main issues I had upon receipt were some burrs on the edges and one of the detachable surfaces was sticking out on the side. The burrs weren't a problem - I just used the Noga deburring tool and lightly deburred the edges. As for the face of the jaw, I sanded it so that it was slightly below the side.
