When my Mac Pro 5.1 BIOS firmware/ROM update was enabled in macOS Apple Mojave (with this firmware/BIOS update, my Mac Pro 5.1 model now has a boot ROM version of 140.0. 0.0.0.0 instead of High Sierra Boot ROM version 138.0.0.0) this allowed my Mac Pro motherboard to use NVMe SSDs on a 1st gen Mac Pro where this is the case in High Sierra and all others earlier versions of macOS was not possible. Although High Point clarifies that their SSD7101A-1 was never designed or tested to boot, one of…

SSD7101A-1 is the best M.2 RAID card on the market

The SSD7101A-1 is, in my opinion, the best M.2 RAID card on the market. I mainly use this as a workspace for rendering projects. This proved to be a great investment and a significantly reduced production time. In numerous benchmarks with the Samsung 970 EVO, I repeatedly documented values in the range of 13,000 MB/s. Real world usage is incredible - it's amazing how fast this card performs at this price point. I should add that the card also works with Kingston drives and probably all other…

Not a real RAID controller.

This is NOT a real RAID controller. RAID is created in software, not hardware. For example, you cannot install an operating system on RAID 5. Not even RAID 0. We tried it for that very specific reason, and even their website doesn't even mention the onboard RAID configuration. We use many different RAID controllers on our servers and all have the option to set up RAID before installing the OS. It's "simple" and an NVMe host bus adapter. It's fast if you don't need an OS on a RAID.

This is an amazing M.2 Raid card that I bought with.

This is a great M.2 Raid card I bought for my project that requires 4 full speed Samsung EVO 960 M.2 drives connected in Raid-0. The speed is undoubtedly very high. However, the Highpoint software cannot always find the controller. In fact it failed a couple of times my test files were lost when restoring. In any case, I only give 4 stars because I only need speed. It's the fastest and cheapest on the market. Highly recommended.
