Just arrived today, cleaned, lubricated, made 6 arreps and the instructions say about 8 minutes; worked great. I can't say how long it will last, but so far so good. I'm used to making them on the stovetop in a pot, so I had to adjust the size.

I like that it's small, but you don't know when the arepas are done. The lights go out, but the arepas are still uncooked, and sometimes they are. It's like you have to constantly check it and plug it back in when the lights are off and they're still wet. Everything is ok for the price. Muy frustrante tener que adivinar si esta cocida o no.

I have two arepa makers and this one is not the best. Big around 4 arepas tend to make arepas better. The ones this one does crumble in your hands when you open them, and the crust on the outside isn't very crispy. But I think it's okay if you don't want to buy a big one and still eat arepas in the morning without cooking them in a pan. And at a reasonable price.

Bought for my husband. He has a gluten sensitivity and thought this would be an easy way to make an arepa for him. It's a wonderful arepas machine, but I've done a lot more than that. I've made cornbread in this breadmaker and it turns out crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. I even make pancakes (with muffin mix) and freeze them for an easy breakfast. And there is no cross contamination which is good for my husband. All in all I am very satisfied with this purchase

But making arepas with it is so easy and I get a perfect circle every time. You'll have to estimate your time yourself, but it seems like about 12 minutes per arepa if you fill the entire capsule. Just received and finally tried it last night and it didn't work like I imagined when you put the masa ball on and closed the lid I thought it would flatten it out and make an arepa, but only a semi-flat ball came out so I had to push it with a spatula to help it. The space for the arepa is small, like a small palm tree. Even smaller for empanadas, you need to make them a lot smaller than usual. For now it's trial and error so I'll keep trying different masas. I love this machine. It heats up quickly and whatever you put in it cooks evenly and well. I love making arepas and have found that I can give them a pretty face by brushing the ball of dough very lightly with olive oil before putting it in the machine. Fifteen to eighteen minutes is ideal for them to cook and get a golden brown color.
